Harborne Pride on the World Stage

Davidson Brothers Flying the Flag at the T20 World Cup

Harborne Cricket Club is beaming with pride as the Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup unfolds in India, with two familiar names representing Scotland on the global stage. Former HCC players Olly Davidson and Jasper Davidson are part of the Scotland squad taking on the world’s best. Their involvement is a huge moment for the club and I’m sure that all members will join me in wishing them, and their team, all the very best of luck for the tournament.

Scotland joined this year’s T20 World Cup at the eleventh hour, being the next best side to call upon after Bangladesh’s withdrawal from the tournament. The quality of their qualification campaign alone was a major achievement for the associate nation, and they have carried that momentum into the tournament proper with confident, committed performances against top-level opposition.

After two matches, Scotland have shown exactly why they deserve to be there, playing fearless cricket and competing hard in all departments, continuing to build their reputation as one of the strongest associate sides in world cricket.

We’ve been especially thrilled to see Olly feature in both of Scotland’s matches so far, making important contributions against West Indies and Italy, taking a wicket in each game and looking right at home on the biggest stage. Olly’s performances have reflected the qualities we saw so often during his five seasons with us, wearing his heart on his sleeve and no shortage of talent on show.

Having joined Harborne CC as a young player in 2020, Olly became a key part of the club over a number of seasons, developing his game and becoming a mainstay of the 1st XI throughout their promotion push. He remained with HCC until 2024, when he made the difficult but exciting decision to relocate back to Scotland in order to train more regularly with the national setup, an ambition that has now been fully realised. Seeing him compete at a World Cup is a proud moment for everyone connected with the club.

Alongside Olly in India is his brother Jasper, who is travelling with the Scotland squad as a reserve player. While Jasper is yet to feature in a match, his inclusion in the touring group is a significant achievement in itself and a testament to the depth and quality within the Scotland setup.

Jasper, who also joined Harborne in 2020, brought great quality to the 1st XI’s batting and bowling lineup throughout his time with us. Being embedded with the squad at a World Cup will provide him with invaluable experience and he’ll be ready to step in if called upon.

Scotland’s next fixture sees them take on England on Saturday 14th February at 09:30. It’s a mouth-watering contest that captures everything great about the newly-expanded T20 World Cup, underdogs versus giants and an opportunity for Scotland to test themselves against the best.

Everyone at Harborne Cricket Club is immensely proud of Olly and Jasper. From their time at HCC to representing their country on the world stage, their journeys are testament to their talent for, and dedication to the sport we all love.
